Domaine de Marotte is located at the foot of Mont Ventoux. Between the vineyards stands a fortified monastery farm – a so-called Mas – that dates from the end of the 16th century. In the past, fruit and vegetables were mainly grown around the Mas. At the end of the 19th century there were also many truffles, but these are more difficult to find nowadays.

In 1998 we, Daan & Elvire van Dijkman, moved to the south of France. Our son was 1 year old at that time. Later, our children Eline, Luc and Jules where born in Avignon. Life on the farm made us a close-knit family. We do everything together; work, eat, drink, laugh, cry, share and most of all, enjoy life.
At Domaine de Marotte we have many different types of soil. On the vineyards located south of the Domaine, the soil is rich in iron, sand, pebbles, and boulders. This soil has the advantage that we can harvest very beautiful and healthy grapes in years where it rains more than normal because the water sinks quickly into the ground, enabling us to use our tractors earlier. On the north side of our Domaine, the soil is very clayey. This soil ensures beautiful grapes again in dry years since this type of soil retains humidity more efficiently.
It has been years since we started working organically. It is something that we find very important. Furthermore, a healthy soil life is very important. Because that makes the plants much stronger and less susceptible to diseases. Moreover, the taste of the grapes is also much more powerful.
We ferment our grapes on our winery. Furthermore, we use stainless steel tanks so that we can easily clean the tanks and keep our wines as pure and authentic as possible. We want to add as little as possible to our wines and therefore good hygiene is very important. Finally, we press our grapes pneumatically, because the air pressure keeps the seeds of the grapes whole, therefore there are no bitter substances released in our wines.
Wine is a very sensitive product and should be exposed as little as possible to oxygen and bacteria. That is why we bottle our wines at our Domaine using a mobile bottling installation. We connect our tanks directly to the filler and then fill the bottles neatly. Directly after that, the corks or caps are put in place.
